Fidmi Medical

Fidmi Medical is developing a uniquely designed, low-profile, enteral feeding device.

The novel device eliminates the drawbacks plaguing existing devices and offers a secure, reliable, and discreet enteral feeding solution.

The Fidmi Medical Opportunity

The market seeks a novel, discreet feeding device that provides enhanced nutrition delivery and improves quality of life. Fidmi Medical’s low-profile enteral feeding device meets these market needs.

  • Sales of PEG tubes and other gastrostomy tubes reached $500 million and is projected to exceed $600 million in 2018
  • Great physician validation during Digestive Disease Week conference
  • Strong advisory board with key opinion leaders from Cleveland Clinic, New York University, and Harvard Medical School

The Product & Advantages

Fidmi Medical’s low-profile, enteral feeding device meets these market needs. Its unique design eliminates the drawbacks plaguing existing devices and offers a secure, reliable, and discreet enteral feeding solution. Read more about the idea behind the novel Fidmi feeding device.

Secure: Semi-rigid internal bumper stays in place, preventing device dislodgment (easily dismantles for trauma-free removal) for reduced ER visits and tube replacements and improved patient care.

Reliable: Unique, disposable feeding tube insert maintains tube cleanliness, eliminating clogging for improved nutrition delivery.

Discreet: Low-profile for enhanced patient satisfaction.

Fidmi’s enteral feeding device is inserted (during initial placement) similarly to other percutaneous endoscopic gastronomy (PEG) tubes for physician ease. The Fidmi device provides a long-term solution for placement and removal of gastronomy tubes. The product’s innovative design —

  • Prevents accidental dislodgment
  • Eliminates clogging
  • Enables trauma-free removal

Background & Market

Many adults and children suffering from cancer, stroke, and neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy and Parkinson’s, experience difficulty eating or swallowing — to the point where they cannot take food orally — and require a long-term solution to receive adequate nutrition. Enteral feeding (endoscopic insertion of a tube directly into the abdomen) presents a key nutrition solution for these people.

In some cultures, where social and family events revolve around food, people who require enteral feeding struggle with significant quality of life issues. Unfortunately, too, they face numerous physical challenges. Over time, 45% of tubes clog and up to 14% of tubes dislodge, resulting in inadequate nutrition and medication delivery, numerous tube replacements, hospitalizations, and a substantial financial burden on patients and the health care system.

Annually, there are approximately 1.3 million PEG tube procedures worldwide, and double this number of replacement procedures. Sales of PEG tubes and other gastrostomy tubes reached $483million and are expected to exceed $600 million by 2018.

Market leaders are enteral feeding device manufacturers and suppliers of nutrition formulations, including Applied Medical Technology, Bard, Cook Medical, Fresenius Kabi, Conmed, Medtronic (Covidien), Halyard, and Nestlé.
